Kona Low: Storm Update

The State and Island of Hawaii are currently under a Flash Flood Watch, while Kau, Puna, Hilo, and Hamakua Districts are under a Flash Flood Warning until Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Due to widespread flooding, several roads are closed, including Highway 11 at Kawa Flats near the 60 Mile Marker, Upper Cane Haul Road (Kaalahiki) between Pahala and Naalehu, and Wood Valley Road in Ka'u District, Highway 130 near the 2.5 Mile Marker in Puna District, and Old Mamalahoa Highway near Honomu in Hilo District. Motorists are advised to slow down and exercise caution while driving, as additional road closures may occur without warning. Hawaii County Civil Defense has requested that motorists stay off the roads until conditions improve. Anyone who sustained property damage caused by rain and flooding is encouraged to visit the Hawaii County Civil Defense website's Request for Damage Assessment link.

Hawai'i County Council Finance Committee to Hear Resolution on $1.7 Million Purchase Agreement for Electric Buses

Hawai'i County - The County Council Committee on Finance will convene on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, is set to approve Reso. 58-23 that could pave the way for the purchase of new electric buses. The bill would authorize the Mayor of Hawai'i County to enter into an agreement with the State worth $1.7 Million, which would enable the County to replace their fleet of buses with energy-efficient vehicles.
